Just two years after her launch, one of the most beautiful yachts in the world has been listed for sale. The Maltese Falcon is a 289-foot sailing yacht which has won many prizes for her innovative DynaRig sail design which allows the masts to rotate depending on wind direction. The yacht's unique contemporary interior was designed by Ken Freivokh and the yacht was built by Perini Navi. There are six guest cabins and eight crew cabins and was built by businessman Tom Perkins who sold his Bugatti to help finance the cost of the boat. Considering that the yacht cost $100 million to build the asking price of 115 million euros doesn't seem incredibly exorbitant. She will make some seafaring and wealthy businessperson very happy.
As Superyacht Times says if you need a sailing yacht for regatta season you might want to check out La Numero Uno. The 131-foot yacht was built by Perini Navi in 1984 but has since gone through a major refit so that she is in like new condition. The yacht has five cabins and room for a crew of six. The sailboat has a jacuzzi tub and cushions on the sundeck for lounging. The aft cockpit includes a main salon and teak bar. The yachts draft can also be reduced to 2.6 meters which means that she can go into areas not usually accessible by yachts of this size. She is listed at 7.9 million euros.
I've seen some amazing sailing yachts offered for sale recently. The latest is one that we've been following since her launch in 2005, the Alfa Romeo yacht. The 98-foot yacht is one of the fastest super maxi yachts in the world. The lightning fast beauty has snapped up a variety of prizes in the last few years including most recently passing the line first in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup. The yacht makes generous use of carbon fiber both on the inside and out. Because she has been racing for the past couple of years she has been kept in peak shape and comes with two complete containers of spares and sails. The yacht is listed at 3.9 million euros.
We cover a lot of yachts for sale but Sorcerer II is something extraordinary. No simple cruiser, she recently completed a two-year scientific expedition circumnavigating the globe to collect samples of microbes in seawater for genetic sequencing The yacht is owned by famed genetics expert Craig Venter and is made of kevlar, E-glass, and epoxy laminates to make one light single-masted sailing vessel. The 95-foot yacht was built to handle extremes in temperature and has accommodations for six in the owner's party with separate quarters for four crew. The master stateroom has a king-size berth with a shower/tub en suite. The port and starboard guest cabins can convert from separate twin beds to a double. I hope whoever buys this one has a thirst for adventure.
Last time week we got news of a small Wally yacht. Now check out a larger design. Wally has announced that they have signed up for the largest Wally ever, a 50 meter (164 foot) blue-water sloop. The yacht has the characteristic large lounge areas seen on other Wally yachts. It has a foredeck with a Jacuzzi tub and tow hidden tender garages, the aft deck features the Wally terrace on the sea concept. The flying bridge / sun deck is where you find the helmstations, as well as a dining area for 16 people with sofas and BBQ area. The deckhouse is enclosed in transparent glass and the view from the salon is enhanced by two big portholes in the bulwarks on each side of the yacht. The living spaces have the usually loft-like Wally style. The owner's cabin is in the lower deck and opens onto the terrace on the sea area. There are also four double guest cabins with en-suites. The crew and service is forward and includes the pantry, laundry, galley, crew mess and five double crew cabins. Three diesel generators supply the propulsion power and services and there are two separate engine rooms. This yacht will be delivered in Spring 2010.
Four years ago, Hodgdon Yachts launched Scheherazade, 154-foot, 7-inch ketch yacht. At the time in a local newspaper, Hodgdon Yacht spokesman Ted Smith, was quoted as saying: "the average ownership over 80 feet is three years," Smith said. "Our client is not like that." Oh how quickly they change their minds. Scheherazade is now up for sale. The yacht, which accommodates six or seven guests was designed by Bruce King with an interior by Andrew Winch Designs. Details such as hundreds of wood hand carvings throughout the boat set this beauty 500 hand carvings throughout the ship set this particular yacht apart. She is listed with Nigel Burgess for $29 million. Interior shots are after the jump.
Some boat owners choose a new name for their vessel every time they upsize. Others stick with one name and just numeral up. The Van Dam Nordia Shipyard has announced the completion of the 80' Nordia Traditional Ketch, Ophira V which is the third yacht that they have built for the same owner. The Ophira V is a joint effort by the owner's family and is designed to be both a racer and a family cruiser. The yacht includes details such as an integrated treadmill in the starboard guest cabin floor with its own DVD system, an Arcam/Linn onboard entertainment system with separate IPod stations in every guestroom, a fully acclimatised wine cellar, wireless satellite internet and retractable LCD screens.
The perfect compromise between your dreams of being Ari Onassis and your Pirates of the Caribbean fantasies is this amazing yacht, the Black Swan. The Black Swan was originally designed by Charles Nicholson and built in 1899 at Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, England. Back then she was Brynhild and through the course of her over 100 years she has had a bunch of different rig configurations and name changes. She has been restored and now has accommodation for eight to 10 guests in four double cabins plus a full-width owner's stateroom. The 132-foot yacht has recently been charted for $42,500 per week and can be bought for $ 7,737,147.
Oh my, some of the most beautiful creations in the world come on the market after their owners are disgraced. The lovely 187-foot sailing yacht Fleurtje is currently on the market for $14.75 million through Edmiston, while her owner John Deuss is in jail for his involvement in a tax scam. The beautiful three-masted yacht has six cabins for guests and eight for crew. The yacht was built in 1960 and has also been known as Carita and then Argonaftis. The yacht has gone through four refits over the years and has been maintained at a top level making her one of the best three-masted schooners in the real world and a real prize for someone who has the money and freedom to enjoy such a vessel.
This beautiful turquoise sailing yacht is the Gliss, a 31m Philippe Briand yacht. The yacht, built by Royal Huisman, was recently moored in front of the Amsterdam's Maritime Museum for her christening ceremony. She has now been dispatched to her Mediterranean home. Gliss has a spacious living area, day head, third guest cabin and crew accommodations with separate entrance, two guest cabins and an aft master suite. The deckhouse has push button slide down side windows for indoor / outdoor living. The yacht is designed to be fast but also comfortable enough for family cruising. Designer Pieter Beeldsnijder used limed oak, cork floors, black granite counters and vibrant colors to create a relaxed and elegant look. Amenities for cruising include a deck with spacious lounging areas that have integrated sunbathing beds and a carbon fiber swim platform.
Another of our favorite sailing yachts is up for sale. Lady Lauren is a Perini sailing yacht which was built back in 2001 but her owner is already on to bigger things, Lady Lauren is being sold to make room for a larger replacement. The 133-foot yacht has four staterooms and room for six crew in three cabins. The yacht chartered for $70,000 and is listed at $17,027,730. After the jump, pictures of the gleaming wood interior and the ample outdoor lounging areas decked out in classic blue and white striped cushions.
I'm a sucker for a
good yacht donation story. The classic
sailing vessel shown here, The Ring-Andersen, was recently donated to the Virginia
Maritime Heritage Foundation. The Ring-Andersen was originally built as a cargo ship in 1948 but was refitted as a
sailing yacht. The ship which has been appraised at $3.2 million was given by an anonymous donor. The ship, which as
been used as a charter vessel in the past, may end up being sold within the next few years to provide income for the
foundation. For now, the ships is moored in the Elizabeth River next to the schooner, Virginia. The Ring-Andersen
may be sold again in a couple of years in order to raise funds for an endowment to provide income for the foundation.
One of my crush yachts, the 174-foot sailing yacht Drumbeat has hit the market. The beautiful yacht which has raced in the Rolex
Transatlantic Challenge and is built for speed can hit up to 23 knots. She also has five guest staterooms, marble
bathrooms and a surprising amount of light and space for a racing yacht. The yacht formerly known as Salperton was
built in 2002 and extensively refitted in 2005. This beauty can be yours for 25 million euros.
